Trial Details

Judges Elsie Jammy, Mark Trollip, Henry van der Merwe, Andrew Philip

The trial held in the Caledon district enjoyed fair to hot weather and despite school holidays a good amount of spectators came to watch. A new trialling field planted with clover which had grown thick and could have been slippery. The humidity factor was high and dogs felt the heat. This year saw an entry of 40 dogs and with the short days the organisers, Pippa and Andrew Philip made sure things ran loke clockwork to get through all the dogs in daylight. Sheep were put out by the Philip's very able helpers so handlers concentrated on their runs. Dorper young ewes a good test; behaving well if treated with respect, but causing trouble with pushy dogs.Penning was the ultimate and the ewes behaved themselves. Francois du Toit a new handler from last year is now in Juniors and doing well. WA Hugo was grinning as he qualified to Seniors at Eendekuil with Jack and they are already in the prizes. We had a small contingency of Zim handlers and it must take great dedication to travel so far for a trial. The standard of the "look back" in top dogs was good as was the shed of unmarked sheep.. As always a well run trial and we look forward to 2012.
